This presentation will address the impact of traditional and impermeable concrete inside and outside the building envelope. Derek Anderson from Specialty Products Group will discuss methods to improve durability and sustainability of all concrete applications as well as the concrete industry's efforts to lower its carbon footprint. This presentation provides a solution to moisture and flooring problems, water and damp-proofing concrete, and techniques to permanently repair concrete.

Derek's career journey is remarkable, transitioning from environmental studies to impactful roles in water treatment and construction. His journey in the water treatment industry transformed a small, 3-person firm into a prestigious multinational company with over 40 employees in just 15 years. he advanced from territory sales to managing the parts, service, and training department. Notable achievements include resolving Walkerton, Ontario's drinking water crisis, presenting at various water/wastewater conferences, and educating future water operators at the Walkerton Clean Water Centre. His dedication to excellence earned him the Richard Percy Service Excellence Award, highlighting his significant contributions to the field.
Derek's career in the building science and materials sector has been marked by significant achievements. Rising to president of his company, he provided innovative construction solutions in Canada. Currently, as Market Manager for Specialty Products Group, he focuses on concrete solutions while exploring other markets. His expertise is showcased through numerous AIA training sessions addressing concrete moisture issues in collaboration with WVRA technologies. Active in the CSC Toronto Chapter, Derek also engages with the London and Hamilton-Niagara chapters, furthering his commitment to industry advancement.
